Managed Storage

Overview

Items in managed storage are set by the domain administrator or other native applications installed on user's computer, and are read-only for the extension. Trying to modify this storage area results in an error.

SmarterTour uses this mechanism to provide all installations with a valid license key.
If a license is provided through managed storage, the user cannot see or change the license key anymore.

The procedure for provisioning managed storage is different for different browsers.

Sideload

This step is not required for using manages storage areas, but normally this process is somehow connected.

There are different ways how to SmarterTour extension can be installed by an IT administrator for multiple client computers. Please refer to the following links for the different browsers:

Mozilla Firefox

For Firefox, you need to create a JSON manifest file in a specific format, in a specific location.

Create the following file in a location which is accessible from all clients.
Replace <LICENSEKEY> with your actual license key.

smartertour@pokeshot.com.json

Microsoft Windows

Now you have to create a registry entry for all users.
Replace <PATH_OF_YOUR_FILE> with the path where you saved the JSON file.

Windows Registry Editor

The non-changeable license key should be available in the extension now.

Google Chrome

The chrome extension comes bundles with a schema definition which declared the enterprise policies supported by the extension.

Policies are analogous to options but are configured by a system administrator instead of the user, allowing the extension to be preconfigured for all users of an organization.
Chrome will then load these policies from the underlying operating system

The schema for SmarterTour looks like this:

Microsoft Windows

The policy can be set via the Windows registry. Create a new registry entry for all users.
Replace <LICENSEKEY> with your actual license key.

Windows Registry Editor

The non-changeable license key should be available in the extension now.

You can verify the policies that Chrome loaded at chrome://policy.

Microsoft Edge

Managed storage areas are not available for Microsoft Edge.
Please refer to the documentation for License Injector for an easy way to provide your users with a valid license key.
